The Royal Palace
The Ahenfie (Royal Palace)'s foundation stone was laid on the 21st April 1927 by Elder Essuah Ayizie, consecrated by the Right Reverend John Aglionby (Lord Bishop of Accra) and formally opened by Major S.B. Jones (District Commissioner) in the presence of the community.
The stone marks the Palace that stands today — courtyard, stool room and durbar grounds built in partnership between the British administration and the people of Esiama. From this stone the Palace has kept the stool, received durbars and held the town's welcome for nearly a century toward 2027.

The King of Esiama
Enstooled 25 November 2020 on the Ainoo Kwagyan Royal Stool — the Asona stool, crow totem, that holds the town's memory.
Belemgbunli Ainoo-Kwagyan III was enstooled Nana Ainoo-Kwagyan III at the Palace durbar grounds in November 2020. As King of Esiama he keeps the stool and the courtyard, receives ministers and members of parliament at the Palace, and argues the town's case — for its clinic, its schools and its place on Nzemaland's coast.
In February 2024 the King received the Member of Parliament at the Palace and appealed for Esiama's health: the town's Health Centre — founded 2 May 1936 — had gone more than a year without a physician, the township population was growing fast, and “Esiama deserves a befitting hospital”. Land for the upgrade, he said, is ready and offered. The clinic-to-hospital campaign has been a standing town appeal since.

The royal family
The Asona royal family holds the Ainoo Kwagyan stool. The household keeps the court — the queenmother and the lineage, the young royals, and the wider family the stool belongs to.
The stool is held in the blood of the house: an enstoolment chooses one of the royal line, and the family that surrounds the King keeps the memory of every reign. At Kundum they sit at the forecourt's centre; through the year they keep the courting, the courtesy and the welcome of the Palace.

The town's records
Esiama keeps three separate registers, published here as the town sets them down: the Stool — the kings of Esiama; the Abusua — the heads of the family; and the Tufohyenle — the captains appointed to serve the stool. They are three institutions, and the town keeps them distinct.

The Tufohyenle are appointed, not inherited: the King appoints them in consultation with the Council of Elders and the elders of the Royal Clan. The register names each captain's clan, reign and the kings who reigned in their time.

The Palace & its office
A Nzema stool is held by more than the King: the office around him carries the court, the counsel and the town's daily work.

Keeps the King's counsel and his voice. At the durbar the Okyeame gives the stool's words back in the town's own tongue — decisions are taken together at the Palace forecourt.

Holds the lineage and the upbringing of the young. In the royal house her voice carries in the choosing and the counsel of the stool.

The royal researcher and keeper of the records of Esiama. He contributes to the official records of Esiama, especially the Annals of the Kings of Esiama.

The Royal Palace's secretary. General Manager at Ankobra Rural Bank and teacher at Esiama Nursing School; he headed LivingStone Christian Academy from 2010 to 2012.

Esiama-born sociologist. St. John's School, then a BA in Sociology at the University of Ghana and a doctorate at the University of Wisconsin — four decades at American universities. Buried in Esiama in May 2026: the town's son, come home.

Ellembelle, the district
Five-term Member of Parliament for Ellembelle since 2009; Minister of Energy & Petroleum (2013–2016); Minister of Lands & Natural Resources (2025–); Deputy Minority Leader of the 8th Parliament. Called on the King at the Palace in 2024 over Esiama's clinic. From Atuabo, Ellembelle.

First President of Ghana, born at Nkroful — four kilometres from Esiama on the R88 spur from the N1. Led Ghana to independence in 1957 and dreamed the dream of a united Africa. Nzema earth that raised a continent's hope.
Father of the nation; Osagyefo — the survivor in Ghana's coat of arms.
Nzema land
Daughter of Kwame Nkrumah and Fathia Nkrumah. First woman to chair the Convention People's Party (2009–2015); Member of Parliament for Jomoro (2009–2012). Carries the pan-African banner of her father's house.
Now a torchbearer for the CPP's pan-African legacy.
